so melea called me up yesterday and she was all "hey, you wanna go to santa fe?" and i was all "fuck yeah" so we're going to santa fe. on sept 3rd. for some fiestas. and apparently there's going to be this great big giant papier-mache "monster" which will be mechanized to flail its massive papier-mache arms and groan (?). and then there will be fire dancers dancing around with fire (clearly) and they will ignite the monster, which will continue to flail its mechanized arms and groan as it burns. WHICH SOUNDS LIKE A LOT OF FUN TO ME. for real. we'll be there for a week. it will be sweet sweet heaven, i'm betting. we're also going to go to taos and maybe camp in the mountains. i love roadtrips! love! i am quite excited. do you think they'll give me vegan food in santa fe? when susan and i went to south dakota the only vegan foods i could find were baked potatoes and french fries with salsa. but santa fe's gotta be like, way more hip, right? *****ok so i just did some research***** turns out it's not just some fiestas, but THE fiesta, or more appropriately LA fiesta, the big one, i guess it's a big deal and it's been going on in santa fe annually for like 300 years, and the name of the big papier-mache monster is "zozobra" which is translated as something like "the gloomy one" and it's burned as a ritual to drive away gloom. i think. now i sound like a complete jackass talking about something that's important to some people and that i'm completely ignorant about. but it still sounds like a lot of fun. i hope all those santa fe folks don't mind me joining the party. |
